THE Executive Board of German Racing's governing body is seeking urgent talks with the mayor of Frankfurt, in a bid to halt the proposed sale of the city's only racecourse to the German Football Federation.
The future of Niederrad racetrack hangs in the balance, with city officials reported to be on the brink of agreeing a deal to grant a lease for the DFB to create a centre of excellence on the site.
The Direktorium issued a press release late on Tuesday, in which it called for the opportunity to properly brief mayor Peter Feldmann on the importance of racing and breeding to the economy in the state of Hesse.
The statement concluded: "We will do everything we can to fight for the preservation of this important racecourse, which is very popular locally. We are working in close collaboration with the management board of the Frankfurt Racing Club and its president, Mr Hellwig, which is also struggling for the preservation of the track."
