HONG KONG – The countdown is officially on. After a brief summer respite, the roar of hooves will once again echo across Sha Tin Racecourse as the Hong Kong Jockey Club raises the curtain on the highly anticipated 2026/27 racing season this Sunday, 6 September.

As the city "saddles up" for what promises to be a blockbuster opener, all eyes will be fixed firmly on the reigning Horse of the Year, Ka Ying Rising, who will look to cement his legendary status by stretching his unparalleled winning streak to a staggering 21st consecutive victory.

A Festival of Sport and Entertainment

The Season Opening Day is more than just a race meeting; it is a full-scale carnival for racing fans and families alike. The Club has lined up a vibrant programme featuring thrilling top-tier races, interactive on-course experiences, and the traditional "Striking of the Lucky Gong" ceremony to usher in good fortune for the new term.

With the summer break drawing to a close, racegoers are expected to flock to Sha Tin to witness the season's first major test of champions. Alongside the equine stars, the day will offer a wealth of entertainment and alluring rewards, making it the perfect destination for a Sunday family outing.

The "Go Go Go" Challenge Heats Up

To amplify the excitement ahead of the big day, the HKJC has launched the "Ka Ying Rising Go Go Go Challenge" – an interactive online campaign designed to engage fans.

Participants can now visit the official 2026 Season Opening Day themed website to test their skills. The stakes are high: the top 500 scorers each day will secure a designated HK$50 Sha Tin Racecourse catering voucher to use on opening day. Organizers encourage fans to share the challenge with friends and family to multiply the fun and rewards.

The Main Event: A Date with History

However, the digital games will soon give way to the main event on the turf. When the gates fly open at Sha Tin, the racing world will hold its breath as Ka Ying Rising – the world-class sprint sensation – steps onto the track.

The David Hayes-trained gelding carries the hopes of a city as he attempts to add another chapter to his extraordinary winning streak. Currently sitting on 20 wins in a row, a victory on 6 September would not only make it 21 straight but would also serve as a powerful statement of his dominance in the new season.

"Come and Be Part of It"

In a statement to the press, HKJC officials extended an open invitation to all: "Gather your family and friends and be part of the excitement as the new racing season gets underway."

The Club encourages all attendees to arrive early to soak in the atmosphere, enjoy the interactive booths, and secure their spot to cheer on the city's equine hero.

With the jockeys weighing in and the final fields being set, the stage is perfectly set. The only question that remains as we approach 6 September is this: Can Ka Ying Rising do it again?
