This is Liang Jian. His owner, Wang Wei Dong, brought him with 1.3 million RMB in 2011 and hoped that he would one of the shining racing stars in China. However, he accidently injured and lost the chance to race on tracks in his youth. The veterinary team took good care of him and wished he could be ready to race again. This colt is named by his owner with the Chinese meaning of “never give up, keep fighting” from a traditional Chinese story.
High in Value
“He is the most expensive horse we got here” his trainer, Zhang Ming Liang, said.
“He is one of the top three horses in my stable but he is injured. Mr Wang (owner) spent lot of time on him.”
Liang Jian was a two-year old on a Racehorse Sales in 2011. Wang was attracted by his handsome outlook and phenomenon pedigree. With strong competition in the auction, Wang bought this little colt with AUD$160,000 (over RMB1, 300,000). Wang had many love to the son of Lonhro and wished that he could be a shining start in China horse racing
Tough in Pain
Life in China did not go smoothly for Liang Jian. His ankle was injured while training. Wang was heartbreaking and spent day and night with Liang Jian to take care of him. He has to give up many key races in the year. With more than one year veterinary treatment, Liang Jian was too tough and he almost healed at the end of age three.
However, Liang Jian gave up his two-year old and three-year old season. This means that he lost this invaluable time to be trained and gained experiences in racing. He was not trained to balance between explosive power and stamina. In order to prepare Liang Jian strongly to be back to race, Zhang has came up with many trackwork plan for him and get him ready to compete on course.
Respectful in Return
Liang Jian chose to return on a club racing in Shandong in 2013. He led all the way to the final straight and just second to the winner. His performance brought confidence to the team and the owner. After the first-up, they have a thoughtful plan for him to run on the 2014 Wuhan International Racing Carnival.
On the first day of the carnival, the five-year old lost in the race but his final straight performance was strong. The team had great hope for him in the Grand Final. He was enrolled into a maiden race, which boosted the team’s confidence in his first win. Unfortunately, his trainer, at the same time his jockey, was injured in the preparation. Liang Jian was not partnered with someone he was familiar with in the race and he lost.
“We still got hopes” said the owner, Wang.
“I have confidence in the team and I have confidence in Liang Jian. We will be back.”
